What are the steps in becoming an Immigration Attorney?
I have one more semester left in completing my BA – I’ve decided that I want my career focus on becoming an Immigration Attorney. What are the steps needed? I live in Florida – either I want to go to Practice in Atlanta or somewhere in Florida. What are the requirements? Thank you!
You must take the LSAT. Then you will apply to a law school. Provided that you received decent scores on the LSAT, have a high GPA and community involvement, money and/ or financial aid you will get into a good law school. Law school will take approximately 3 years to complete. During that time you will spend 1/2 the time learning ALL law and the remainder of the time specializing in the law you want to practice in (Immigration Law in your case). After you graduate from law school, you can apply to work at a firm that specializes in the law you’re interested in.
Edit: Your school counselor should be able to help you with this process.
