Obligations of Immigration Lawyer?
If I talk to an Immigration Attorney about my friend who’s passport expired and now needs a green card (who btw can speak perfect english) would that attorney be legally obligated to report him? He is in the US he’s been here for years actually. I’m trying to legally do what I can for him (no not marry because I am not in love and I am not going to go to jail) He lives in another state now and he is now over the age of eighteen. His mother is illegal as well the only family member who isn’t is his sister but she’s a minor. So could his mother get a green card because she is legal (born here) thus getting him one?
Sorry for the confusion, no his mother is not a citizen either, but her daughter (10) is which is his sister (hope that makes sense now)
If your friend talks to an attorney then attorney-client privilege would be in effect. That means the attorney has a duty NOT to report him. If you talk to an attorney how would he know who you’re talking about?
The end of your question didn’t make sense to me. His mother was born here? Then she’s legal. If she was born here and got a birth certificate issued in the US she doesn’t need to do anything more than get a copy of that to prove her citizenship. If you mean his sister was born here, that might help him get a green card but probably not much. If he is the son of an American citizen, which he would be if his mother was born here, he might have an advantage.
