My husband has gone MIA. Is a citizen of egypt, but has a US green card. Should I contact anyone?
He recently “disappeared”, taking his truck. His truck and my vehicle are both registered/financed under his name. I am still paying for my vehicle ( every payment has come from my sole bank account) and have no idea where he is, let alone his vehicle. He left me with bills, payments, etc. Because he has a green card, am i basically “stuck” now? Did he violate any type of abandonment laws (in NJ) or immigration laws? I also recently found out he was involved in using drugs. Should i file a missing persons report so that there is something on “record”? Will I be held responsible for this mess? Help!!!!! Please! Typically I cannot afford a high priced lawyer and don’t know if I should attempt to contact legal aid?!!
Hubby is an adult and can go and come at will. If the vehicles are registered in his name and the title is in his name as well, they are his property and can again do want he wants unless you file for divorce…then they are considered marital property and you would have 1/2 interest.
Is the car loan in his name as well? If so, stop paying it!
If you feel that something foul has happened, file a missing person report with the police.
Do you have a green card? If you are not a US citizen and do not have a visa or a I-485 (green card) you are in the country illegally and can be deported. I said can…USCIS will determine the facts.
Get ready by protecting your interests. Start your own bank account, transfer money from the joint account…all of it. Take you name off of joint credit cards immediately, he could be buying drugs with it. Look for an Immigration and a divorce attorney.
