Steps to become US citizen after marriage without lawyer?
My husband and I got marriaed 3 years ago, I’m French and he’s American. We haven’t filled out any forms, we only went to City Hall and had a little ceremony. The paper work seems complicated and extremely long. We don’t know where to start because we probably won’t hire an immigration lawyer. Does anybody know what to do? Should we start with the I-130?
Thanks everybody!
You don’t have to hire a lawyer, they are very expensive and you can do it yourself! I did it all by myself when I married my husband 3 years ago. You do have to do a lot of reading and a bit of digging, but it is worth it because u save money that way.
There are a lot of websites that offer help but be careful because some of them offer to sell u books and such to help, but in reality you can find all the information you need in the government’s website and it is FREE.
Check out this link:
http://www.uscis.gov/ and look for the section of “Immigration through a Family Member” you should find all the info you need there and the forms as well.
Good Luck!!
