Hi! I want to know if I can run for public office in the Philippines.?
I’m an American citizen but I grew up in Mindanao since I was 18. Is it possible for me to be in public office? I really think I would do great in government since I am an immigration lawyer here in the States. Plus I’m not corrupt (nor have any reason to be) and my intentions are only for the well-being of the Filipino people. Lastly, my great grandfather was a mayor in my city in Mindanao. I don’t know if that would benefit me.
Oh I forgot to mention that I was born in Cebu. I grew up in Mindanao, specificaly Cagayan De Oro city and I do know the language and people of my town. My only problem is that I lost my Filipino citizenship when I moved here in the States.
Not until you have become a Naturalized citizen of the Philippines. Still you could never run for president as you have to be born on Philippine soil.
Word to wise, filipino politics are very nasty and deadly. There are many murders every election. Understand that the corrupted element of the Government there does not want it to change and they are willing to kill to make sure it doesn’t!!!
