Does any one have info on same-sex couples & immigration?
My partner and I have been together for 8 years, we are both female and she is American and I am from the UK. There is no way I can get into the US. I need some help finding a good and not too expensive immigration lawyer who can give us some advice about her coming to live here with me. I don’t think I can take 8 more years of seeing each other for just a few weeks at a time. I have looked at immigration sites, but they all seem to be focused on asylum seaker type cases. I have been sick for the past year and know that it is a HUGE barrier for getting her in as I am currently on benifit for that.
Thanks OriginalBubble. The first 2 sites I have not seen before. Thats helpful stuff!
You are right, there is no way for you to get into the USA.
But I *think* that if she came over here, and you got a civil partnership – then you would have the same rights as any straight married couple. You would have to prove the relationship, letters, photos, emails from the past 8 years etc. But then she could apply for a married person visa.
Good luck – I couldnt be without my g/f for that long!
I have found some site for you:
