US lawyer working abroad. ?
Hi,
I would like to study law in the US however my husband and I have plans to move to Europe in a few years (Gw). I would like to have the option to work in the US should we decide to move back. An ideal job would be to work online as a lawyer. However I am not sure such a thing exists or how successful it would be or how I would gain the trust of my clients. Any suggestions? I would love to study immigration law which I know is specific to each country. However just looking to see if anyone has a similar experience. Also any other career suggestions for a US lawyer wanting to work abroad?
thanks a lot
I don’t think it would be successful.
What you should do is find out the requirements to be an attorney in the country where you plan to move (for foreign attorneys) – what type of education you need to have, what tests you need to take, whether you need to be licensed in the US first (and if that would then bypass something else that might be required in the country).
For a US lawyer wanting to work abroad, I would check out the large law firms that have international offices (they should have offices in New York and California [usually NYC and Los Angeles]). If you start out at one of those, you might be able to transfer to one of the offices in Europe.
